Scotland will meet United States in Saturday's bronze medal match at the World Men's Curling Championship after losing a tense semi-final against Canada.

Ross Whyte's rink, making their debut in the competition, had reeled off 10 successive wins to finish the round-robin in second place but let a 7-6 lead after eight ends slip, going down 9-7.

Whyte could not find a way into the button in the tenth, giving up a steal of one.

In the other semi-final, Sweden, led by seven-time world champion Niklas Edin, needed an extra end to beat USA 8-6.
