Vasco Vilaca stays at the top of the World Triathlon Championship Series rankings with a lead of 809 points from Miguel Hidalgo who finished 11th.

Today's winner Matt Hauser is up to 3000 points.

Hungary's Csongor Lehmann took the bronze medal and moves up to sixth in the rankings.

Matt Hauser has been reflecting on his victory.

"It was nice to have another battle with Vasco and see what we had left in the end," he says.

"I wanted to play it a bit differently and see what I had in an all-out sprint. It was nice to get the inside line early and hold it there as well."

As for Vilaca, he's in reflective mood.

"We keep fighting, these duals with Matt are just incredible."

"The tactics I've been trying to work on definitely worked better. I think I was pretty cool side by side with him, but as we got to the last turn he had the inside and put in an extra gear and that was it for me."

"Another second place, of course I want better but what an incredible season so far with my worst results all being second places."

Matt Hauser and Vasco Vilaca are shoulder to shoulder in the final few hundred metres.

Hauser in the end has too much for the World Triathlon Championship Series leader as he pulls away to win in London.

Vilaca gave it absolutely everything and collapses beyond the finish line after leaving everything out on the course.

But it's back to back wins for Hauser after he secured victory in Hamburg earlier this month.

Max Stapley finishes in 12th for Great Britain while Alex Yee does well in the run to secure 14th place.

Vasco Vilaca and Matt Hauser are in the mix for a podium finish in London was they look to pull away on the second lap through the Excel Centre.

American Morgan Pearson is hanging on at the front but Vilaca and Hauser look far more comfortable.

Great Britain's Max Stapley has dropped away and is 12 seconds behind.

We could be in for an sprint finish as the front five are all together heading into the third lap.

As we approach the end of the cycle a large lead group of thirteen riders has pulled clear.

The main contenders including championship leader Vasco Vilaça and world champion Matt Hauser are in the breakout group, but so is Great Britain's Max Stapley.

Alex Yee sits back in the chase group now more than 40 seconds behind. His chances of reaching the podium are looking slim.

Olympic Champion Alex Yee is back in his home city where he finished fourteenth in the London Marathon just over a year ago.

In December he recorded his best marathon time with a finish of 2:06:36 in Valencia.

He has also been competing in the Diamond League, achieving a season's best of 13:27 in the 5000m in Monaco.

But he failed to finish in both of the World Triathlon Championship Series races he has competed in this season.

In his pre-race interview Yee says he is hoping for a "turn in momentum".

"Let's see what happens. I'm just here to have fun, race with a smile on my face and put a few smiles on other people's faces as well," Yee says.

Next up is the Men's Race as they too prepare to start the swim in Royal Victoria Dock.

Amongst them is Olympic champion Alex Yee who grew up only 30 minutes away from the course, so it will be familiar territory for him!

Great Britain's Beth Potter retains her lead in the World Triathlon Championship Series rankings after finishing fourth. Georgia Taylor-Brown finished in sixth.

Taylor Knibb's lead is quickly gone on the first lap of the run as she drops down the pecking order.

France's Cassandre Beaugrand is now out in front in a breakaway group with Sweden's Tilda Mansson and Germany's Lisa Tertsch.

Can the reigning Olympic champion see this through?

Heartbreak for Tilly Anema as she takes a heavy fall after hitting a cone while out in front on the cycle route.

She is sitting up on the side of the road and receiving treatment but will not be able to continue.

With Anema's race over, Taylor Knibb is now out ahead on her own. Can the chasing pack start closing the gap to her?

American Taylor Knibb is worth Anema as the pair break away early on in the cycle.

The sixth race of the series is now under way in London. The elites will be tested by the conditions on another warm day in the capital.

The elites are starting to come out on to the start line. The start time for the Women's Race is slightly delayed but likely to get going in the coming minutes.

During a triathlon athletes will go through two transitions (T1 and T2).

A transition is a physical area where athletes will rack their bikes and store equipment such as helmets and shoes. It is a very technical part of a triathlon and holds certain rules such as mount and dismount lines where athletes by which athletes must be on or off their bike.

Athletes will incorporate transition practice into their training because saving time is crucial especially in a sprint triathlon. It is also a common place to pick up time penalties if the rules are not followed.

T1

The first transtion is from the swim to the bike. The athletes will have to remove their wet-suits if they are wearing one and collect their bike ready for the cycle route. Athletes will most likely have cycle specific shoes, which will be attached the their pedals for them to slip into.

T2

This is the second and final transtion from the bike to the run. It it requires the athletes to dismount before a certain point and return their bike to their designated spot. They then have to transition into their running shoes.

Potter will be among the favourites to win on British soil, despite missing June's Quiberon race in France because of altitude training and finishing sixth in the previous meeting in Hamburg.

The Glaswegian, who claimed bronze in the Paris 2024 Olympics, won the season opener in Uzbekistan and came second in both the Japan and Sardinia races.

Since delivering one of the standout moments of the Paris Games, Yee has experimented with marathon running – making his debut in the London 2025 race and then achieving the second-fastest time by a Briton in Valencia 2025, running 2:06:38.

The 28-year-old began his transition back to triathlon in Yokohama where he finished fifth. But the Olympic champion failed to finish the men's race in Sardinia.

Olympic medallists Alex Yee and Beth Potter will be competing at the World Triathlon Championship Series in London this weekend, and you can follow the action live on the BBC.

Paris 2024 gold medallist Yee returns after competing in marathons and more recently, the 5,000m in the Monaco Diamond League.

Fellow Briton Potter tops the women's standings and world rankings after three podium places in the opening rounds of the series.

The WTCS represents the flagship elite series of World Triathlon, with the world's best triathletes competing at iconic venues including the ExCeL London.

A further three races are planned for the season, which culminates with the finals in Pontevedra, Spain, in September.
