England swimmers break records for double gold

Swimmers Georgia Sheffield and Will Ellard both broke records to win England's first golds in the pool on day two of the Commonwealth Games.

Sheffield set a new championship record of two minutes 06.44 seconds in the women's 200m freestyle S14 before minutes later Ellard set his own Commonwealth record time of 1:51.66 in the men's event.

Ellard broke his own record after already setting a record time of 1:53.52 in the heats.

"I've completed it all now," 20-year-old Ellard said.

"European, worlds, Commonwealth, Paralympics now. I'd like to try and do it three times in my career – maybe four, I don't know. You never know in s14's who will come up."

Sheffield was joined on the podium by Poppy Marshall, who won the silver medal.

"We're best friends, so to share this moment together makes it even better," said Sheffield.

"We push each other hard in training and we're always racing each other. Having someone like that alongside you really helps because you're constantly driving each other on."

There were also three silver medals for Oliver Morgan in the 50m backstroke and the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay team of Jacob Mills, Jacob Whittle, Freya Anderson and Freya Colbert.

Teenager Filip Nowacki also took silver to make history for Jersey in the men's 100m breaststroke, while former champion Adam Ramsay-Peaty took third.
