Cardiff Devils maintained their perfect start to the Elite League as they celebrated their 40th anniversary with a 3-0 win at home against Dundee Stars on Saturday evening.

Devils had to wait until the second period to open their account through Nick Welsh.

Josh MacDonald and Kohen Olischefski netted in the final period to seal Devils' third successive win and leave Stars still seeking their first victory.

Netminder Ben Bowns collected a 37th shutout of his Cardiff career, Devils' second in their three league matches.

Before the game more than 30 former players and coaches received rapturous applause from fans of the Welsh club which was founded in 1986.

"It was a great occasion," said current head coach Paul Thompson.

"We've been talking about it all week and to see all the guys and the atmosphere and the crowd were unbelievable.

"The legends came in and I said to the boys 'these players are the reason the club is what it is and they're looking to us to give them a good night'. I'm glad that we did."

Devils top the table before hosting Belfast Giants at the Vindico Arena on Sunday.
