Chelsea defender Axel Disasi has been given permission to visit Crystal Palace for a medical as talks advance over a season-long loan move.

The South Londoners have emerged as the main suitors for the 28-year-old France international centre-back, with all parties open to concluding a deal.

Talks remain ongoing over the size of the loan fee, with the expectation that Chelsea and Palace will ultimately come to a full agreement.

For Palace, Disasi would be the seventh signing of the summer for new manager Pierre Sage as he revamps the squad.

It will be a frenzied final week of the transfer window at Aston Villa.

Defender Ezri Konsa will be the fourth high-profile exit after Morgan Rogers, Youri Tielemans and Lucas Digne left this summer, once his £51m move to Arsenal is officially confirmed.

Villa still need to find a solution for Emi Martinez after his failed move to Juventus while Al-Hilal remain interested in Ollie Watkins.

Should the duo leave before the 1 September transfer deadline - and Villa want to keep Watkins - then six of the starting XI which won the Europa League in May will have left.

A summer of change was expected but it is the biggest transition of the squad since Villa returned to the Premier League in 2019.

Unai Emery is, at least, a constant especially with nine new managers starting in the Premier League this weekend.

He is the second-longest serving manager in the Premier League, behind Arsenal's Mikel Arteta and remains Villa's biggest strength, having joined in November 2022.

But there will be questions to answer and fans' fears to ease when he faces the media at the club's Bodymoor Heath training ground this afternoon.

Villa go to Brighton on Sunday and having been picked off by rivals this summer, Emery and Villa have less than two weeks to plug the growing gaps in the squad.

BBC Sport reported earlier this week that Aston Villa had agreed the deal to sign West Ham defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The DR Congo right-back was given permission to travel for a medical in the Midlands but the exact terms of the deal at that point were not known, with the Hammers having previously asked interested clubs to pay a £25m fee.

The 28-year-old has missed Championship side West Ham's first two matches of the season during negotiations.

Aston Villa signed Harvey Elliott from Liverpool on a similar loan deal last season and chose not to play the England midfielder for the majority of the campaign, rather than trigger the terms of the obligation to buy.

Opta's Premier League numbers from last season show Omar Marmoush averaged 11.46 runs in behind per 90 minutes, almost identical to Dominic Solanke's 11.61 and ahead of Richarlison's 10.03. But he also offered considerably more with the ball.

Marmoush averaged 5.67 progressive carries per 90 minutes, compared with 3.24 for Solanke and 2.48 for Richarlison.

He also led both Tottenham forwards for shots, chances created, successful take-ons and touches in the opposition penalty area.

He had 3.86 shots per 90 minutes compared with 2.81 for Richarlison and 1.80 for Solanke, while Marmoush created 1.55 chances against 0.92 and 0.54 respectively.

He also produced 0.77 goals and assists per game, ahead of Richarlison's 0.69 and Solanke's 0.27.

The sample is smaller because of his limited league minutes, but the profile is clear.

Marmoush is more inclined to take opponents on and manufacture shooting opportunities for himself than Spurs' existing central forwards.

That could make him particularly useful when opponents sit deep and deny Tottenham the space to attack directly.

Omar Marmoush is primarily a number nine, but he has rarely been confined to one role across the front line.

At Frankfurt he was used predominantly through the middle but also appeared as a second striker and from the left. City have followed a similar pattern, using him mainly as a central attacker while also deploying him from the flank and just behind another forward.

That flexibility could suit Roberto de Zerbi. His teams have often relied on forwards changing positions, dropping towards the ball and then attacking the space created when opponents are drawn out. Marmoush is comfortable doing both.

Former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha sees the Egyptian as most dangerous when he is able to threaten the space beyond the defence.

"As much as he is good dropping towards the ball, I think he is better when he plays on the shoulder," he said. "He needs to be in a team that will constantly play balls in behind and force the opposition to run back towards their own goal. That's when you see a better version of Marmoush."

Tottenham's summer spending, which has also included a combined £185m on midfielders Mateus Fernandes from West Ham and Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, may not end with Savinho.

BBC Sport understands that talks with Manchester City over a deal for Egypt forward Omar Marmoush are "progressing positively".

It promises to be a tough opener for Frank Lampard's side, who won their place back in the top flight by finishing top of the Championship last season.

Coventry City have announced the signing of English goalkeeper Dan Bentley from Wolves on a two-year contract.

The 33-year-old former Southend and Brentford stopper has made just 14 appearances for Wolves over the past three seasons since signing from Bristol City.

He is keen to bring experience to the goalkeeping group at Coventry on their return to the Premier League.

"I’m a senior player with good leadership qualities and someone who has really high standards," he told the Sky Blues website.

"Of course, I want to make my mark on the pitch as well. There’s a really good goalkeeping group here, so I want to complement that group and when I get my opportunity, it’s down to me to take it."

Savinho's versatility and directness could suit Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi's approach.

His teams often try to draw opponents forward in possession before exploiting the space that opens up, creating one-against-one situations for wide players.

Savinho's acceleration and willingness to take defenders on make him well suited to those moments.

From the left he can hold the width and attack the outside, while from the right he can move inside on to his stronger left foot and combine with team-mates.

His value is not limited to goals.

At Girona, much of his threat came from carrying the ball over distance and disrupting defensive shape, which could give Spurs a more direct route through compact defences and create openings for central forwards.

That side of his game was less visible at City, where competition for attacking places was intense and players such as Phil Foden and Rayan Cherki were better suited to central roles.

Tottenham are therefore investing in the qualities Savinho showed so clearly at Girona: pace, ball carrying, one-against-one ability and chance creation from wide areas.

At 22, those attributes help explain why Spurs are prepared to pay a huge sum despite his modest scoring return in Manchester.
