VAR takes a look at Andrey Santos going down inside the Hull box. There were not many appeals for a penalty, and the check is a brief one with no action taken.

Hull look well up for this, and why not? Everyone has tipped them to go straight back down - may as well have a go.

    AD, Leeds

Hull, yet again proving that stats are NEVER the full picture. This is still, thankfully, a game about people and passion.

Just under 15 minutes to go until half time and Manchester United need to find a bit more bite in their attack. They've not really offered much and Hull have managed to keep Bruno Fernandes pretty quiet.

Should really be 1-1 as Harry Maguire plays a really good ball into the box and finds Patrick Dorgu, but he can't put his shot on target.

Patrick Dorgu does well to send a low ball towards the far post despite having three players around him, but there's no team-mate there waiting and the ball goes out for a goal kick.

That goal all stems from the Utd immobile midfield being ran all over on the counter leading to the corner. There's been signs of it already this game. Could be a frustrating season for Utd. Quality on the ball, dreadful off it.

    Callum, London

Lammens is going to be a very busy goal keeper this season. Wow. That Utd defence is a shambles and the midfield are doing very little to protect them.

    Matt, York

Lammens is the only Utd player awake.

Patrick Dorgu and Konstantinos Tzolakis both go for a ball into the box, both end up flat on the floor and the whistle goes for a foul on the Hull goalkeeper.

Hull must have been watching how AC Milan caused Manchester United problems last week.

They are keeping their wing-backs really wide, then moving the ball out quickly, which is giving Noussair Mazraoui and Luke Shaw a problem covering from full-back.

It created the initial opportunity for Oli McBurnie in the first attack of the foray that led to Semi Ajayi putting the hosts in front.

Ayden Heaven has done well in pre-season but his inexperienced showed then. He was totally outmuscled by McBurnie, who was unfortunate not to score himself.

Hull are going for more. The left is a real problem for Manchester United as another cross comes in from there but Mohamed Belloumi balloons his shot over.

    This is remarkable.

The pace of the ball coming in is the secret, it is whipped in aggressively.

Semi Ajayi scores, Oli McBurnie thought it was in, it is now.

That's a brilliant set play goal.

    Semi Ajayi (17 mins)

    Lift off!

Hull City take the lead from the corner. Manchester United defend it poorly as the delivery goes through to the unmarked Oli McBurnie. His strike is well saved by Senne Lammens but Semi Ajayi is there to poke home the loose ball.

What a start for the newly-promoted side.

The game is opening up now as Hull go close.

It is a nice break down the left before Ryan Giles picks out Oli McBurnie inside the box, but his header is punched away by Senne Lammens.

Good stop from Konstantinos Tzolakis, you'd expect him to make it though.

There was a bit of hesitancy in the Hull defence.

Manchester United are stepping it up a bit now as Noussair Mazraoui works the ball to Matheus Cunha on the edge of the box. He spins and sends a low strike towards goal, but Konstantinos Tzolakis saves.

  18. CLOSE!published at 12:43 BST

    Hull 0-0 Man Utd

There's the first meaningful chance for the visitors!

Luke Shaw's cross goes all the way through to Bryan Mbeumo, who thumps a first-time strike straight at Konstantinos Tzolakis.

    Decent strike, decent save.

    Hull 0-0 Man Utd

Hull fans will be happy with this start by their side. Manchester United have seen more of the ball but are yet to create a meaningful chance. The visitors are regularly opting to go for the ball over the defence but that's not come off just yet.
