That goal all stems from the Utd immobile midfield being ran all over on the counter leading to the corner. There's been signs of it already this game. Could be a frustrating season for Utd. Quality on the ball, dreadful off it.

They are keeping their wing-backs really wide, then moving the ball out quickly, which is giving Noussair Mazraoui and Luke Shaw a problem covering from full-back.
It created the initial opportunity for Oli McBurnie in the first attack of the foray that led to Semi Ajayi putting the hosts in front.
Ayden Heaven has done well in pre-season but his inexperienced showed then. He was totally outmuscled by McBurnie, who was unfortunate not to score himself.

Hull City are winless in all 10 Premier League meetings with Manchester United (D2 L8), the joint-most they’ve faced a side without winning along with Chelsea (also D2 L8). The Red Devils have only faced Charlton (16), QPR (14) and Birmingham (14) more often without losing.
Manchester United have never lost in the top-flight when facing a newly promoted team in their first game of the season (W9 D3), with this the first instance since 2010-11 when they won 3-0 against Newcastle.
Only Blackpool (100%, 1/1) and Man Utd (65%, 22/34) have a better win ratio in MD1 Premier League games than Hull City, who have won 60% of their openers in the competition (3/5). Their most recent top-flight opening game was when they beat reigning champions Leicester City in 2016-17.
Manchester United have won their opening game of the Premier League season on 22 occasions, the most of any side. However, they lost 1-0 to Arsenal last season, last losing their opening in consecutive league seasons in 1972-73 and 1973-74, getting relegated in the latter.
In their last Premier League campaign back in 2016-17, Hull City conceded more goals than any other side (80). Indeed, they lost their last three games back then by an aggregate score of 13-1.
So far in the Premier League in 2026, Manchester United have earned the most points (41), won the joint-most games (12, level with Arsenal), and scored the most goals (36), while only Bournemouth (1) have lost fewer games in the division this calendar year so far than the Red Devils (2).
Hull City were promoted via the play-offs in last season’s Championship, despite having the fifth-fewest shots (515), third-most shots faced (681), and second-lowest xG difference (-20.6) of all 24 sides in the regular season. Indeed, they are the first side to be promoted to the Premier League after finishing 6th in the Championship since Blackpool in 2010.
Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic is set to become the first ever Bosnian to manage a team in the Premier League, the 28th different nationality to do so. None of the last eight ‘new’ nationality managers have won their opening match (D3 L5), with Chilean Manuel Pellegrini the last to do so in August 2013.
Man Utd boss Michael Carrick has won four of his six managerial meetings with Hull City in all competitions (D1 L1), and is unbeaten in his three visits to the MKM Stadium (W2 D1).
Bruno Fernandes set a new record for most assists in a single Premier League campaign last season with 21. With nine goals as well, he was the first Manchester United player to be involved in 30+ goals in two different Premier League campaigns (also 30 in 2020-21).
