    FT: Lens 1-9 Como

    Asmir Begovic
Former Premier League goalkeeper on TNT Sports

    On Como's performance:

They're such a fun team to watch. Such quality. You see the way they buy into what the manager wants to do. They're so fun to watch.

They're going to make some serious money from some of these players.

  4. 'Como's development as a team is mirroring Cesc's as a manager'published at 22:44 GMT

    FT: Lens 1-9 Como

    Stephen Warnock
Former Liverpool defender on MOTD: UEFA Champions League

Como are such an exciting team to watch but there is a balance as well. They know how to defend but, going forward they are so dangerous.

I think the big thing when you look at what they are doing is that, yes, they have got rich owners but that alone doesn't buy you guaranteed success - you have got to buy the right players to fit the right system and Cesc Fabregas has gone for young players as well who are hungry but also can keep progressing and keep improving, like he is as a manager.

So the team's development is almost mirroring his development, in the way that they are going to progress together. It's a brilliant story.

Some more stats from Como's 9-1 win at Lens if you'd indulge us.

    • Como have equalled the most goals scored by any club in their first four major European matches (19), matching Queens Park Rangers in 1976. They have surpassed the Champions League record by five goals, previously held by Juventus (14 in 1995-96).
    • Lens have suffered the joint-heaviest defeat by a French club in major European competition, alongside Strasbourg’s 10-2 loss at MTK Budapest in 1961. No French side had previously lost a major European home match by more than five goals.
    • Como are only the second club to score nine goals in a UEFA Champions League match, after Bayern München vs Dinamo Zagreb in September 2024 (9-2). They are the first Italian side to score nine in major European competition since Roma beat Altay SK 10-1 in 1962.
    • Como are the first side to have 11 different players score or assist in a UEFA Champions League match, overtaking the previous record of 10 set by Benfica in their 6-1 win against Maccabi Haifa in November 2022.
  9. 'Strange goal to concede for such a brilliant goalkeeper'published at 22:34 GMT

FT: RB Leipzig 2-3 Man City

    Owen Hargreaves
Former Manchester United midfielder on TNT Sports

I think it was a cross [Baku goal], but obviously it nestles into the net and for all players at the top you get punished if you make mistakes.

You have to hope for the best and plan for the worst and [Gianluigi Donnarumma] doesn't really need to be there, and be that far off his line because if he's a yard back he just picks the ball up quite easily.

He probably just didn't get back in the position that he anticipated, he probably thought he was closer to the goal than he was, but strange goal to concede for such a brilliant goalkeeper.

Worrying result for the Arsenal. This was an opportunity for a statement 5-0 win. Instead we couldn’t take it and reinforces my belief we’re going to have a massive City/Liverpool-like comedown in CL and go out in first knockout round. We’ll still take PL comfortably.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to TNT Sports: "Always we need to value winning away in the Champions League. It is extremely difficult. Two very different halves. We should have had three or four goals in the first half but we didn't do it. Right at the start of the second half we were on the back foot, very sloppy and gave balls away. Then we had to suffer. A lot to learn.

"We should have scored more in the first half and if we didn't do that we had to go and do that in the second half.

"We made six changes but we know the quality of the players we have. Whether we were lacking something I don't know but I would have done the same thing [again].

"I value what the team has done now, it is 11 away games we played."

FT: RB Leipzig 2-3 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca speaking to Uefa: "Tough game in some moments. We controlled quite well but some moments we struggled. Champions League, Germany away, it's tough so happy with the three points.

"They are well organised, they were aggressive and dangerous with the wingers. We needed to be careful on transition. Happy with the three points and now we recover and move on."

On being in dugout next to RB Leipzig coach Martin Demichelis: "A very good friend. We are very close, he's doing a fantastic job in the league and hopefully they can do better in the Champions League too."

We just play the wrong midfield every game and act surprised when the hot knife (our opponent) meets the butter (our defence). Donnarumma can barely make saves as it is, never mind if we let teams fire at will at him.

  15. 'Donnarumma is having a difficult period'published at 22:24 GMT

FT: RB Leipzig 2-3 Man City

    Charlie Adam
Former Liverpool midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

    On Gianluigi Donnarumma's performances:

There were moments again like that goal against PSG when Manchester City were about to get momentum in the game and he threw one in. Tonight I thought he should do better at the near post [for the first RB Leipzig goal]. There was a shot in the first half that nearly goes in. There was a free-kick that goes over the bar where he misjudges the flight.

Remember all the good things he's done since he came to Man City and his career so far and all his experience. He's having a difficult period in terms of moments in games. I don't think it's just him. I think the team in general is not free-flowing and clicking.

  16. Donnarumma was at 'fault' for Baku goalpublished at 22:23 GMT

FT: RB Leipzig 2-3 Man City

    Joleon Lescott
Former Man City defender on TNT Sports

I think it's a bit telling though that Gianluigi Donnarumma is celebrating [the save] like that. It probably highlights the lack of confidence he has, and the understanding of the errors.

As unfortunate as Leipzig were there [Baku goal], Donnarumma was at fault for this. I don't think Baku means that.

With the greatest respect to [Donnarumma] he's probably made the most errors out of the back five.

A quick prediction here after four matches, the final will a repeat of last season's final but this time around, Arsenal will beat PSG with a defensive masterclass. They are the two best teams in Europe at the moment and no one comes close.

  18. 'Second half was completely different'published at 22:20 GMT

    FT: Slavia Prague 1-2 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, speaking to TNT Sports: "First half we played really, really well. We created a lot of chances and could have scored more but the second half was completely different. They stepped up a gear and made it difficult for us and we have to learn from it. Delighted with the win but a lot of things to improve going forward.

"Maybe they started pressing a bit higher with more intensity. We had too many giveaways especially in the final third. There was too much running from box to box and we have to manage those reactions and go for the third and fourth goal.

"At the end of the day it is three points."

  19. Postpublished at 22:19 GMT

Another Como stat if you'd like.

Their 9-1 victory at Lens equals the biggest win in Champions League history - level with Real Madrid 8-0 Malmo and Liverpool 8-0 Besiktas. Both of those were home wins.

  20. 'We need to step up a bit'published at 22:17 GMT

FT: RB Leipzig 2-3 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland speaking to TNT Sports about being ready when chances come: "Not sure how many touches I had today, not the most but what is the most important is that I managed to help the team to win. I think we need to step up a bit, when we were 1-0 up I think we needed to go at it, go for the second goal and then the third - that's what we have to do. We have to work on that."

What improvements? "Keeping the ball, when to keep it when to go, working together offensively and defensively. You can always be better and there's always a new chance. A new game in three days so that's lovely."

On being ready for chances: "You can look at it that it's difficult to keep concentrated for 100 minutes or you can look at it like it's only 100 minutes you have to stay focussed to get a chance - you can look at it in a few different ways and I look at it in the second option."
