Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall has signed a new contract with the club that runs until 2031.

The left-back, who has been the subject of interest from Manchester United, has agreed a two-year extension to his original deal.

Hall said it was a "really proud moment" to extend his stay as a boyhood supporter of the club.

Hall, 22, has made 106 appearances for Newcastle since joining the club from Chelsea in 2023.

Arsenal have three more matches before the international break and boss Mikel Arteta was asked about the possibility of seven Gunners players being called up for England.

"Let’s see what Thomas [Tuchel] decides first and after that we can talk about it," said Arteta. "I’m really happy with our players, the variety that we have within the squad, the balance within the squad, especially the personalities and the different qualities that we have managed to put together."

On the importance of the English contingent to Arsenal: "Very important, not only within the squad but also within the staff, within the club and to make sure that this culture and the roots are very clear and that they are very attached to our identity and our values."

On whether he has been surprised with how quickly defender Ezri Konsa has settled in after his move from Aston Villa: "It's certainly something to admire because it's not easy at all and you should not take it for granted. But after talking to a lot of people that have worked with him, whether they're staff members or players, I already had a sense of the way everybody was talking about him, that he's a person that is great at gathering people together, he has a real personality, a lot of leadership skills.

"You saw the first day he just trained the way he was talking, the way he was presenting himself. It was very impressive and so far he's done a really good job."

More from Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta on how he plans for travel problems, so his team are then used to it.

He said: "We delay the meals, delay the transport, taking a different route, make the dressing room hot, less beds, because we are going to have to adapt so there is not an element of surprise on match day - it's important."

On the club's Ballon d'Or nominations: "It says about where the club is at the moment, how well the club is doing. I think obviously the consistency that we’ve shown in our performances. Then those individual rewards are because the team does an incredible job together, so it’s good to see, they have transformed that into major trophies, that’s the important thing."

On being nominated for the head coach of the year award: "That’s not up to me, but it’s a privilege to be there for sure."

On who will win the player award: "I don’t get to vote, so I’ll leave that to the specialists."

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta on how his side coped with a plane delay before their Champions League match in Italy against Napoli in midweek.

"I love these challenges," said Arteta. "I try to create them in pre-season and arrive at different times so when they happen we have already experienced it.

"You can miss a flight, the train can be delayed but I don't want the players or staff to be panicking when it happens, instead adapt to it. But do not complain and use it as an excuse because it's not helpful at all."

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been asked about Kai Havertz's best position and said: "The best position is what the game demands and what the team demands on the day to be as efficient as possible.

"Kai is extremely intelligent, that's his biggest quality. He is five seconds ahead of the game and he just makes the people around him better. He is scoring goals, producing chances, his work rate is outstanding and he is in an outstanding emotional state."

On retaining the Premier League title, he said: "We have to focus on the next match. We experienced last season how difficult it will be tomorrow night and it's great to play these type of games. We have prepared, we are ready tomorrow to be on the pitch and compete like we always do and be better than the opponent and try to win the game.

"Last year we dropped points there in the last minute [drawing 2-2] and we've learned a lot from that game."

"I'm only interested in the probability of winning tomorrow," he says.

The perception of Arsenal's transfer window varies depending on who you speak to - but there will be no disagreement from anyone at the Emirates Stadium over how crucial their next expected signing will be.

With the market closed until January, the club are now in the process of finalising an agreement with manager Mikel Arteta over his protracted new contract.

Well-placed sources indicate those discussions have moved forward recently amid full confidence from those involved in talks that the Spaniard will renew.

Indeed, Arteta moved unequivocally last month to remove any lingering doubt over his future: "Everybody feels comfortable that the timing of the contract is not going to be an issue because my will certainly is to be here and I'm very happy here.

"My feeling from the club is the same one. That's why everyone is doing things in a very organic way."
