Boos as Manchester United's players head down the tunnel. Not much to like about that first half for the hosts.

Just what will Michael Carrick say?

I was just waiting for the net to bulge. Soule takes that touch, moves the ball away from himself and the defender to set himself up to curl it into the top corner.

Goodness me that wasn't far away.

  3. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:49 GMT

    Man Utd 0-2 Roma

Matias Soule almost makes it three with a brilliant effort from range but he fires just wide and that will be the last action of the first half.

Forty five minutes to forget for the hosts.

There's not been anything in this performance. I haven't seen a tackle, a cross, an effort at goal. There is nothing in this performance to be positive about.

I don't know where [Carrick] starts because they have been that poor in every department.

Defensively all over the place, midfield no creativity, and up front no running in behind, no efforts at goal, no holding the ball up. It's really been embarrassing for them.

A big chance for Manchester United to pull one back before the break as they win a free-kick 25-yards out.

Bruno Fernandes plays it short for Kobbie Mainoo and the midfielder registers United's first shot on target but it was a fairly straightforward save in the end for Devis Vasquez.

Advantage Barcelona at the break, but Aston Villa are in this and have had their moments.

  7. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:47 GMT

    Man Utd 0-2 Roma

Roma get on the break at pace and Donyell Malen gets himself one one one. He looks to slot into the bottom far corner but is denied by a full-stretch save from Senne Lammens. A really good stop, that was heading for the net.

Rodrigo Mora is there for the follow up but also shoots at the keeper.

    Man Utd 0-2 Roma

Carlos Baleba tees things up for Bruno Fernandes but the Portuguese scoops it over the bar.

Probably Manchester United's best chance of the game so far but the finish wasn't there.

Bruno Fernandes' free-kick is straight into the wall before Carlos Baleba sends a poor pass out wide.

Just a few minutes to go until the break. Just what is Michael Carrick going to say to his players?

  10. 'You pay to watch Lamine Yamal live'published at 20:43 GMT

Ian Maatsen has been booked and is just stood flat footed against Lamine Yamal and gets nutmegged. He is a player you pay to watch live. The admission is worth it alone just to watch Lamine Yamal.

It's so alarming how easy Man Utd are to play through from one end of the pitch to the other they get opened up, and then they are scrambling back [with] last ditch tackles.

  12. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:43 GMT

Donyell Malen goes into the referee's book for a foul on Carlos Baleba.

A clear booking and United have a free-kick in a decent spot.

Pio Esposito has doubled Inter's lead over Feyenoord in Rotterdam.

The young striker gets up well to head into off the bar after good work from England full-back Djed Spence.

He drove forward down the right, got into the box and his deflected shot looped up invitingly for Esposito at the far post.

Meanwhile, LASK are now two up against Slovan Bratislava. Kasper Jorgensen with his second of the night.

  14. CLOSE!published at 20:41 GMT

    Man Utd 0-2 Roma

A last-ditch defensive intervention from Leny Yoro prevents Rodrigo Mora getting Roma's third.

It was a lovely move and the ball comes across the box and looks certain to find Mora but Yoro was sprinting to get there and he needed to. He hooks it away but that was so close to a third for the visitors.

Villa need to make one of these chances count, they really do.

Suddenly Aston Villa find themselves three versus two. Nicolas Jackson leads the charge but he has Emiliano Buendía and Johan Manzambi in support. Jackson opts to go for it alone and his shot deflects behind for a corner.

Manzambi holds his hands up in the air in frustration. He was unmarked on the far side of the box.

I'm seeing one team full of confidence and belief. Every player on their team wants the ball and I'm seeing the other team that are devoid of ideas and devoid of any belief and confidence, playing with none whatsoever.

Important challenge at the last second by Pau Torres as he slides in to take the ball away from Raphinha just as he was about to drive a shot at goal.

Bryan Mbeumo powers forward after picking up a good ball but another good defensive interception from Roma prevents him getting the shot away.

The Italian side are enjoying a really good season and are very much in the Serie A title race at the moment as well as sitting eighth in the Champions League table. Worlds apart from where United currently are.
