I want the fans to see a difference - Ainsworth

Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth says he hopes the club's new recruits will make the team more dynamic this season.

The Gills get their League Two campaign under way on Saturday at home to Walsall.

Ainsworth has brought in 12 new players in an attempt to improve on the 17th place in his first full season in charge.

"I'm hoping you'll see the proper us this Saturday," the Gills boss told BBC Radio Kent.

"It's the league campaign. I've said judge me on this. I want to see a different Gillingham team that you haven't seen for a few years.

"You can change styles slightly, but you can't change personal attributes. You can't make someone quicker, cleverer or braver, and I believed I needed to do that with a few players last year and I couldn't.

"The players I've signed have got different attributes this season, so I'm hoping you'll see a performance difference [and an] energy difference.

"I can't guarantee results but they're a by-product of those other things.

"I want the fans to see a difference in the way we're playing."
