Defender Joel Senior has joined Tranmere Rovers from Bristol Rovers and will be reunited with manager Darrell Clarke.

Senior, 27, played under Clarke for the Pirates during the first half of last season, before Clarke was sacked.

Although Senior had the option of a third season on his Bristol Rovers contract, the club agreed to his request to move back closer to his family in the north west.

He has agreed a two-year deal with Tranmere, subject to a medical.

The Manchester-born right-back had a season with Burnley and also had spells at Altrincham, Carlisle and Morecambe.

Senior told Tranmere's website: "I've come here to push the club to the right end of the table and do them proud this season on the pitch.

"I've worked with the manager before and I know how ambitious and driven he is."

Clarke said: "He's shown consistency at this level and we feel his profile suits exactly what we want; someone who can defend, get up and down the pitch and add quality in both phases of the game."
