More accomplished Wrexham need 'A game' at Swansea

Swansea City have won just one of their last 11 league meetings with Wrexham, although that was a 2-1 victory last season

Phil Parkinson believes Wrexham are a more "accomplished" Championship side than when they travelled to Swansea City last season.

The Red Dragons were beaten 2-1 by Mitor Matos' men in south Wales in December but went on to secure their highest finish by ending the 2025-26 campaign seventh.

The Swans host Wrexham on Saturday (20:00 BST) as leaders of the second tier having collected 10 of the 12 points on offer this season.

But Parkinson believes his side's 3-0 win at Millwall in midweek demonstrates the progress Wrexham have made since their gut-wrenching loss in Swansea last term.

When asked if his side are better equipped now than their most recent trip to Swansea, Parkinson responded: "Absolutely. The Millwall game is a good example of that, where we won 2-0 down there last year and we beat them 3-0 this year.

"But they were very different games in terms of the control we had in the game this time around.

"We looked to a more accomplished Championship side this time around. The players have got used to the level and of course we've added quality into the group."

Swansea goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux played his part in an eye-catching team move that was rounded off by Eom Ji-sung as Matos' men beat Watford 2-0 on Tuesday night.

Parkinson stated that his side need to be aware of the Chile international's distribution, in addition to saying Wrexham will need to be at their best to secure a positive result.

"The Swansea supporters will be lifted by the start of the season they've had, but we know what we've got to do," Parkinson said.

"We had a great meeting with the lads on Friday morning and now it's down to us to execute what we spoke about and walked through on the training pitch, and for us to bring our A game to the table."

He added: "The keeper's distribution is a key factor for them in terms of looking for runners in behind and from deep, we've got to be alive to that, which we will be.

"Obviously they're confident, but so are we after the win at Millwall and we're going to take that performance into this game."
