Newport re-sign wing Nyakuhwa on loan from Cardiff

Newport County have completed the loan signing of winger Tanatswa Nyakuhwa from Cardiff City on transfer deadline day.

The Newport-born 20-year-old becomes County's 12th recruit of the summer, and returns to Rodney Parade having spent the second half of last season on loan with the Exiles.

Nyakuhwa returns to Rodney Parade under a different head coach following the appointment of Hayden Mullins.

Mullins had made adding a winger a priority given Yahya Bamba and Shaquille Gwengwe appear the only two recognised wingers inside the club following the departures of Ben Lloyd, Michael Spellman and Bobby Kamwa during the summer.

The winger spent the second half of last season on loan with the Exiles making seven substitute appearances and contributing two assist as County secured their football league status on the final day of the campaign.

Nyakuhwa's return provides Mullins with another option in wide areas.

The move represents a chance for the player to rebuild fitness having sustained a hamstring injury while on international duty with Wales Under-21's this summer.

Having had surgery, Nyakuhwa returned to full team training with Cardiff before making the switch back to County.

Despite Mullins' lack of options in wide areas, traditional striker Gwengwe's deployment out wide has not affected his goal scoring form.

Gwengwe has scored four goals in three games, leaving him just two goals shy of Nathaniel Opoku - Newport's top scorer from last season.

Nyakuhwa has made nine first-team appearances for Cardiff and will now hope his return to Newport can provide the platform to kick-start his senior career.

And Newport are still hoping to add further signings ahead of Tuesday's 23:00 BST deadline.
