AFC Wimbledon say a preferred investor has been identified in their long-standing attempt to raise new capital.
The club, which was founded by supporters of the former Wimbledon FC and is majority-owned by the Dons Trust, admitted last year the current ownership structure is "not sustainable".
In April, Dons Trust members voted to approve moving to a 50.01% model of majority ownership, giving the board the mandate to seek potential investment partners.
The club now say that, having spoken to more than 20 interested parties, one group "has emerged as the strongest fit" and has "a proposal that will allow for competitive capability, sustainable football investment, improved infrastructure and greater operator resilience".
The proposal must now be approved by Dons Trust members, who have been invited to attend a meeting on 21 October, when details of the would-be investor will be shared and online voting will begin.
A second meeting has been scheduled for 29 October and an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) for 10 November.
Online voting will close on 17 November and the result will be announced the following day.
