Plymouth Argyle's Nigeria striker Owen Oseni could be out until the end of November after suffering a ankle injury.

The 23-year-old was forced off after 33 minutes of the Pilgrims' 5-1 win over Crystal Palace Under-21s in the Jersey Mike's Trophy on 22 September.

Oseni, who won his first cap for Nigeria in May, had just returned to action after suffering a thigh injury late in pre-season.

"Because it's an ankle he's injured in the past the specialist has advised we take a little bit more time to make sure that ankle heals and is as stable as it can be," Plymouth Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley told BBC Radio Devon.

Oseni made two substitute appearances in League One in early September after returning to fitness.

But his latest injury comes as a blow for a player who had impressed last season - he scored 10 goals in 33 games after joining from Scottish side St Mirren.

"I'm disappointed for him because his season's not got going," added Cleverley.

"He missed a large part of the pre-season and then he's trying to chase a little bit of fitness.

"Then in a sort of nothing action of the game, chasing a ball into the channel that the defender falls on him and his ankle sprains.

"It was an important game that he played in against Palace Under-21s, and unfortunately he didn't come out the other end of it fit."

Positive news for Pleguezuelo

However, Cleverley says there is positive injury news on defender Julio Pleguezuelo.

The 29-year-old Spaniard came off with 16 minutes to go of the 1-0 loss to Burton Albion last season and left Home Park in a knee brace.

But Pleguezuelo, who has impressed in 10 games this season, is only likely to be out for a couple of weeks.

"It was completely precautionary," Cleverley said of Pleguezuelo's knee brace.

"We have to do these things if ever there's a slight instability in a knee or an ankle.

"Having got the scan done very quickly we've ruled out any major damage to the inside of knee."
