Northampton sign Evans on one-year deal

Northampton Town have signed experienced midfielder Lee Evans on a one-year deal.

The 32-year-old began his career at hometown club Newport County before moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers where he won the League One title in 2013-14, making 26 league appearances during that campaign.

Evans went on to win three more promotions to the Championship as a player with Wigan Athletic, Ipswich Town and Portsmouth respectively.

He last played for Bradford City, whom he left at the end of last season as the Bantams lost in the League One play-off semi-finals to Bolton.

"Lee is a leader on and off the field and a real stabilising influence in the dressing room," manager Chris Hogg told Northampton's website.

Evans becomes the Cobblers' eighth signing of the summer and the first since it was revealed a consortium including former Brazil striker Alexandre Pato is close to buying a majority stake in the club.
