Wales' Ingle targeting progress at Bristol City

Wales midfielder Sophie Ingle is targetting progress and promotion as she prepares for her second season with Bristol City.

Ingle re-joined the Robins on a free transfer last summer and played in all 22 Women's Super League (WSL) 2 games as they finished fourth.

The 34-year-old hopes they can build this term and challenge for a place in England's top flight to join her former club Chelsea.

"There is another big push for promotion this season, that's always going to be the aim," Ingle told BBC Radio Bristol's Sound of the City programme.

"But again we have to develop the younger girls coming through, it's all about performances and obviously trying to get the wins.

"It's about learning quickly and hopefully building on from last year because we've kept a core group of us now and we've started to gel."

Ingle was among a host of new signings last season, while Charlotte Healy came in as the new head coach.

With another pre-season under their belts this summer, Ingle is hoping it will put them in good stead ahead of their opener at Sunderland on Sunday, 6 September.

"We had a lot of change, a lot of players and obviously Charlotte coming in," Ingle said.

"I think there were 13 new signings and it was just all about building together with the investment at this football club.

"So it's just progressing from last year. We did really well to finish fourth and hopefully we can go a bit higher this time."

Ingle, who admits to feeling back to her best after a serious knee injury, has committed another two years to Bristol, after extending her contract to 2028 earlier this month.
