There will be no Foyle Cup action in the north west in July
Foyle Cup organisers have confirmed that the youth football tournament in the north west has been cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Over 400 teams played last year in the north-west event which started in 1992.
"Understandably the tournament cannot take place this year," said the tournament organisers.
"Our number one priority is that everyone stays safe from the potentially devastating effects of COVID-19."
Also on Friday, Super Cup NI organisers confirmed that their tournament scheduled for early August had been called off.
Foyle Cup officials said on Wednesday that the tournament was set to be cancelled.
Tournament scheduled for 20-25 July
This year's competion was scheduled to take place from 20-25 July.
"There are many considerations which we have to take into consideration - the main consideration being the health, safety and well being of our kids, coaches, managers, referees, parents and family members," said Wednesday's Foyle Cup statement.
"Added to this we believe social distancing is here to stay for some considerable time - well into 2021.
"In addition we will need to consider the pressure the hospital staff are under and as many of our First Aid volunteers are involved supporting front line services. It is questionable if many of them will be available.
"A further matter which requires consideration is insurance cover which I think will be to be difficult to get insurance cover or if we did it would be extremely expensive."
