Glamorgan were unable to force a win against Essex as rain ended the contest as a draw after just 21 balls of play.
Following a delayed start, Essex added 20 runs to their second innings for the loss of George Bell's wicket for 66.
But they were still precariously poised, 25 runs in arrears after following on, when the weather intervened again.
Glamorgan finish sixth in the table while Essex are eighth, thanks to Leicestershire's points deduction following their Division One match against Glamorgan in August.
Rules that teams should lose all their match points for a poor pitch should ease any relegation worries for Essex supporters, whatever the extra sanctions decision.

Resuming at 13:00 BST on 331-5, Essex took 14 runs off the first over from Timm van der Gugten, before Noah Thain hoisted Ray Toole's first delivery for six.
Bell was leg-before to van der Gugten, having registered his third half-century in as many matches on loan from Lancashire.
But Simon Harmer had time to face only one ball before the rain returned, with umpires Alex Wharf and Mike Burns calling it off shortly afterwards.
