Middlesex sign Hampshire batter Orr

Middlesex have signed top-order batter Ali Orr on a three-year deal, after his contract at Hampshire expired.

The 25-year-old left-hander has scored 2,551 runs in first-class cricket, at an average of 34, but played just five times in Division One last season, with a highest score of 53 not out.

"This is a fresh start for me, and I'm looking forward to competing across all three formats, consistently making a difference in the side," Orr told Middlesex's website, external.

"I'm looking forward to getting started and helping the club achieve its goals of promotion into Division One and competing in the T20s."

Orr has 300 career runs in 19 T20 matches, averaging 15.78, and a further 1,493 runs in List A cricket, at 45.24.

He leaves Hampshire after three years at the club, during which he scored five centuries and two fifties.

Orr started his career at Sussex, signing his first professional contract in 2021 and scoring his maiden century in only his third game. The following year he hit a career-best 206 against Somerset.
