New duo 'final pieces of jigsaw' for Glamorgan

Glamorgan have completed their squad for tier-one cricket in 2027 by signing Hannah Jones and Amy Wheeler on two-year professional contracts.

Left-arm spinner Jones, 27, arrives from Lancashire and has played in the Hundred for Manchester Originals.

Right-arm medium-fast bowler Wheeler, 21, was with the Blaze and featured for the Welsh county once in the T20 Blast.

Glamorgan's head of women and girls cricket Aimee Rees said: "Hannah and Amy are the final pieces of the jigsaw.

"Both players add important qualities to our squad, and their arrival completes what we believe is a well-balanced group with a blend of experience, youth and potential."

Glamorgan's new-look squad will start pre-season training in November as they build towards being the 10th team in the expanded top tier.

Rachel Priest's side won the League Two T20 Blast and were runners-up in the One Day Cup but have strengthened for a tougher challenge against teams who have already developed at professional level.

New contracts have been signed by Lauren Parfitt, Betham Gammon, Daisy Jeanes, Gemma Porter and Megan McColl, while loanees Abbey Freeborn, Bethan Ellis and Megan Sturge will return on permanent deals.

Seren Smale, Nancy Harman and Georgia Davies join Jones and Wheeler in moving to Sophia Gardens.

Rookie contracts have been agreed with Charlotte Lambert, Bethan Robinson, Eve Jackson and Poppy Walker.
