Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Jude Gallagher has beaten Slovakia's Maksym Bocarov by unanimous decision in the European Boxing Championships.

The Newtownstewart native claimed a comfortable victory in the 60kg category and will now face France's Lounes Hamraoi in the last 16 on Monday.

Fellow Irish boxer Dean Clancy also secured a last-16 spot in the men's 65kg category when he overcame Mohamed Siala of Germany.

Clancy won 3-2 on the judges' scorecards and has been drawn against France's Hugo Grau on Sunday.

The victories mean Team Ireland remain unbeaten in the European Championships after Commonwealth gold medallist Jon McConnell won by unanimous decision when he faced Turkey's Necat Ekinci on Thursday.

Three Irish boxers will be in action on Saturday with Shannon Sweeney taking on Italy's Chiara Mosetti, Daina Moorehouse facing Zlatislava Chukanova from Bulgaria and Lisa O'Rourke drawn against Greece's Vasiliki Stavridou.
