Team GB made a strong start on day one of the Para-fencing European Championships in Cardiff, securing bronze medals in the mixed team epee and mixed team foil.

GB Paralympians Dimitri Cotya, Justine Moore, Piers Gilliver and Welsh favourite Gemma Collis competed in the mixed team epee.

Team GB's mixed team foil line-up had a single athlete change, with Oliver Lam-Watson replacing Gilliver.

The hosts will hope the early success brings momentum for the rest of the competition.

The mixed team event was a first of its kind for Para-fencing, with the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympic Games in mind.

Cardiff is hosting athletes from France, Ukraine, Italy, Hungary, Poland and Great Britain, with the competition having a 20-point format, while organisers hope it is more dynamic and engaging than the traditional 45-point version.
