DJ Kerozen overcame a stutter, poverty and family resistance to follow his musical dreams. He’s become one of Cote d’Ivoire’s major artists in coupé-décalé, a heavily percussive, high-energy dance music that blends Ivorian and Congolese rhythms with contemporary sounds. His unique sound mixes a coupé-décalé beat, gospel lyrics and a zouglou melody. And he’s collaborated with some of Africa’s musical legends: Ivorian superstars Magic System and Didi B, and the trailblazing Senegalese rapper Didier Awadi. DJ Kerozen tells This is Africa how he counts among his fans the Ivorian former footballer Didier Drogba, where he got his name from and his determination to give back to the people who helped him achieve his goals by setting up a label and a charity that focuses on safe water provision. Plus DJ Edu, the Afroboss, plays his latest pick of the hottest tunes being produced in Africa.
