US negotiators to visit Moscow and Kyiv over weekend

Weekend

Available for 29 days

President Trump’s envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff are expected to arrive in Moscow on Saturday as part of a renewed diplomatic effort to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said the US negotiators will then visit Kyiv on Sunday, and has proposed a temporary ceasefire with Russia while the envoys are visiting both countries. Ukrainian officials say Russia struck an industrial enterprise in the Dnipropetrovsk region overnight, killing four people and injuring five others. Also in the programme: a US judge in the high-profile murder trial of a mother charged with killing her three small children has declared a mistrial; the search for survivors of last week’s catastrophic flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border continues; and we reflect on the life and writings of the celebrated American author, environmental activist and farmer, Wendell Berry. Joining Julian Worricker on the programme this morning are Stephanie Baker, senior writer at Bloomberg News in London, and Ganeshan Wignaraja, Sri Lankan-born economist and visiting senior fellow at the ODI global affairs think tank.
