Spain and France are bracing for new heatwaves with temperatures expected to soar past 40C in some regions. Spain's national weather service says the severe weather is forecast to last until "at least" Sunday, and warns of "extreme" fire risks. France's south-west regions Gironde and Landes are under "yellow alert" for a heatwave expected to peak on Wednesday, further hampering efforts to contain "very unpredictable" blazes in Gironde.
