Virtual reality breast screening

Make a Difference: North East

Available for over a year

For many women, the thought of attending a breast screening appointment can feel daunting, despite the fact it can save lives through early detection. Around three quarters of those invited do go along, but concerns about the procedure and uncertainty about what to expect can put some people off. A pioneering virtual reality experience developed here in the North East is aiming to change that, helping women from across the region feel more informed and confident before their appointment. Madelynne Flack has been to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead to find out more and meet the team behind it.
