AW Hainsworth, a Leeds textiles company, has just picked up a King’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation, one of the most prestigious business honours in the country. The Awards recognise the very best of British business for companies making a real difference through new ideas, quality and impact and only a small number are given out each year. Managing Director, Amanda McLaren spoke to Rima Ahmed about the award and the rich history of the business. AW Hainsworth has a history stretching back over two centuries, from Waterloo to World War One and beyond, the troops at the Battle of Waterloo wore red thanks to the striking scarlet cloth produced by Hainsworth for the soldiers. Their cloth was worn at the weddings of Prince William and Prince Harry and they also make woollen coffins, Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh was buried in one.
