A city celebrates promotion

Coventry City

Available for over a year

An unforgettable night for Coventry City as promotion to the Premier League was finally secured, with BBC CWR there to capture the reaction as it happened. Commentary legend Rob Gurney reflected on calling that match, the calm after the noise, the people in his thoughts, and the sentence that had been a long time coming: Coventry City are a Premier League club. Phone lines lit up as Sky Blues across the city and beyond called in, some from the stands, voices hoarse and emotional, others from living rooms. The morning after the night before the team have been out and about meeting the team behind the Sky Blue sausages, still celebrating at hmv Empire and meeting the tattoo artist who has a queue of fans desperate to be inked with Coventry City. There's a celebratory special train announcement from Avanti West Midlands. We caught up with fans who were at the ground, Emma and Ewan and James from BBC’s The Traitors on what promotion meant to him, we round things off in Broadgate, where the celebrations showed no sign of stopping. Coventry is awake, united, and Premier League bound.
