Welsh Pioneers

Science Café

Available for over a year

Adam Walton delves into the stories of trailblazing Welsh scientists, including the influential Naturalist and Travel Writer, Thomas Pennant, on the 300th anniversary of his birth. Thomas Pennant Scholar, Professor Mary-Ann Constantine, tells us all about his scientific endeavors. We explore the life of Isaac Roberts, the first person to take a clear image of our nearest large galaxy, Andromeda. Adam chats to Alfred Russel Wallace's great-grandchildren, Bill Wallace and Sue Gillson, who share their views on their inspiring ancestor who independently formulated the theory of evolution by natural selection, which matched the then unpublished ideas of Charles Darwin. Plus, we hear from Nicola Bruton Bennetts, a descendant of eighteenth century Actuary, Mathematician and Radical, William Morgan. Produced by Stuart Russell.
