No 'effective theory of safety' in AI

The World This Weekend

Available for 28 days

Tech leaders call for a slowdown in AI development over safety fears. For an AI safety special, The World This Weekend looks at what the latest models can do and whether we should all be concerned. Josh Engels, a researcher who left a leading lab, tells us that an AI takeover could look like "a second species that we're almost giving birth to, that soon we will inhabit the earth with entities that are much, much smarter than us." Marc Warner, who advises the UK government on AI, says that "we don't have an effective theory of safety right now." And Congressman Bill Foster, a Democrat who was been warning about AI safety for years, says the industry needs to spend at least 20% of its time and money on safety.
