Ahead of this year's BBC Proms, Sakari Oramo, chief conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra opens a window into the art - and the joy - of attentive listening. Today, Sakari takes us inside the listener's mind, and explores how context affects how we listen to music. From where and how we listen to music, to what we listen to before and after a piece of music, to the historical context in which listeners might have first heard a particular piece, Sakari delves into the ideas which shape how we understand the music that we hear. He'll also explore the influence of language on our musical experience, and discuss the art of concert etiquette. Presenter: Sakari Oramo Producer: Sam Phillips A Tandem Production for BBC Radio 3
