Joropo in three tracks with Cimarrón

Music Planet

Available for 27 days

Kathryn Tickell plays the best of new global roots music, including a track from a recent compilation of Guinean revolutionary music, Jewish folk melodies courtesy of Amsterdam Klezmer Band, and a piece from a brand new collaboration between Lebanese multi-instrumentalist Charif Megarbane and Jakarta-based trio Ali. Elsewhere in the show, Kathryn invites Colombian singer Ana Veydó from the supergroup Cimarrón to pick three tracks that embody the joropo, a traditional music genre and dance style that originated in the plains region of Venezuela and eastern Colombia (the Llanos) and which is characterised by the sound of the harp, cuatro, and maracas. Produced by Silvia Malnati A Reduced Listening production for BBC Radio 3. To listen on most smart speakers, just say: 'Ask BBC Sounds to play Music Planet'.
