Black History Month special: Icons and anthems

Available for 48 days

This week’s Throwback Thursday is a Black History Month special, celebrating the legends and anthems that shaped culture and still bring the vibes today. From UK stars like JME, Giggs, Tinie Tempah, Wretch 32, Jamelia and Gabrielle to US icons including TLC, Destiny’s Child, Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige, Biggie and Ciara, it is wall-to-wall classics. Get ready for grime fire in Man Don’t Care and Pass Out, smooth R&B like No Scrubs and Girl, and pure party energy with Be Faithful, Goodies and Country Grammar. Every track is a reminder of the power of Black music to move, inspire and unite. To listen on a smart speaker, just 'ask BBC Sounds to play 1Xtra'. If you are abroad, keep listening with the BBC Sounds app for up to a month, or head to bbc.com/audio to hear 1Xtra live and explore more BBC Radio stations. Produced by BBC Audio for BBC Radio 1Xtra.
