My Special Day
Lewis Kerr
It was a cold April morning when we got her. My mum and dad decided we should get a new rabbit, as our last rabbit died just two weeks back from a brain tumour. She was called Fudge, as her fur was the same colour as fudge. Fudge had paws that looked like little white fur boots and had eyes like a black hole never ending.
I was so excited about having a new rabbit around. Me and my sister were jumping for joy and running our parents up the wall. We were as excited as children on Christmas Morning. My sister was nine and I was seven years old. My mum was just as happy as we were. She loved having the little 'fur ball' as she called them, lurking around her feet, keeping them warm and cosy. Dad being Dad didn't show any emotion or feelings.
On the way there I couldn't stop thinking about what kind of rabbit I would like. What colour to choose, get a newborn or an older one? I certainly didn't want one of the rabbits that had red eyes because they used to scare me when I was little.
As we parked the car at the pet shop, I could see the bright red walls and the yellow door. I glanced above the door; the big bold text read 'DOFOS'. I ran straight into the shop without hesitation. I headed directly for the rabbit section of the building. As soon as I set eyes on the rabbit sitting in the corner. All the other rabbits were running about crazy but this one was sitting still. She was still as a statue. She was white and ginger with a hint of black in her fur. I knew she was the one. I confirmed this with my mum and my sister. They agreed with me. We went to the counter and told them what one we wanted. They soon approached the rabbit and picked her up. Another person with a white t-shirt on and printing reading 'staff' in bold red writing. She was holding a box filled with paper shredding and sawdust. These were prepared before hand. The rabbit was taken up to the counter where we paid £20.
We arrived back at the car with a rabbit in my hands. It was a great feeling, this creature crawling around. It felt amazing! On the way home we were discussing her name. I suggested Smudge but my mum thought it was too similar to Fudge. We were discussing for the whole journey home and finally came to a conclusion; Daisy was the verdict. Daisy. What a cute name. It took Daisy around 2 hours to get used to her surroundings. She was eventually bobbing up and down the stairs.
What a Day!!!!
