Most Memorable Day

Jarred Seivwright

I have lots of memorable days but one really stands out, the day I went to Ayres Rock in Australia. We went for five days but the third day was the most memorable. When we got up in the morning at four o'clock we had to get ready and go down to reception to wait for a bus. There were about five buses that had come round the corner and straight past us. After about half an hour our bus arrived. A couple had fallen asleep in the reception so the bus driver pressed the horn and the two of them got a fright, it was really funny.

When we got to Ayres Rock there were loads of cars and buses and lots of people were on the top of their cars with cameras. The huge rock that could be seen from all around was dark brown but when the sun started to rise the Rock started to get lighter and lighter until it was this bright orange colour.

When the sun had risen we went on a guided tour around the bottom of the rock. There were caves where the aboriginals lived and there were lines and holes in the side of the rock representing characters from the stories we were told by the guide. She told us how they lived and what they ate in the desert. The caves were filled with aboriginal drawings which all told the history of these people. After the walk we got on the bus and went back to the hotel for the afternoon and swam in the pool. In the evening we got washed and ready to go out again. We got on a bus and went back to the rock. This time we were further away in a small area in the desert at the base of the rock where there were drinks and snacks like kangaroo and crocodile. We then watched the sun set over the Rock and I took lots of pictures as the sky looked like it was on fire and the rock changed colours again. Then we went down a path to a big area with tables and a big buffet. We ate our dinner and then listened to the aboriginal stories. A woman then turned all the lights off so it was pitch black, then we looked up and you could see all the stars and galaxies. The woman then told us where all the star signs were and showed us Orion's' belt and other ones. There was a giant telescope that showed you Mars and Saturn you could even see the rings around it. On the way back to the hotel the buses lights were rubbish so you could only see things that were three metres in front of you. When we got back it was midnight and we had been up from four in the morning so we were all very tired. That was my most memorable day and I don't think I will ever forget it.
