A Journey To London

Ryna Mccudden

It's 7am; hubby son and myself sitting comfortable getting relaxed in our seats on the Glasgow to London train. The train has moved out of the station, my son pipes up; 'just to let yous know I haven't any money,' we just stared at him and didn't utter a word. Nine hours later we arrived in London at kings cross . I had not visited London since I was a child. We immediately went searching for a bed and breakfast for one night; until we went to Wembley the next day. My instant reaction was fear of being in a strange busy city centre. Physically tired and worried that we would not find a decent priced accommodation for 3 people instead of the planned 2. After a half hour walk a B &B was found run by an Indian male owner; my son being of half African blood the owner tells him you can sleep down here beside my room, I'll make sure you're alright; then my other half and me were shown to our room we just looked at Chico feeling sorry for him. Chico just said 'will come up to yous early in the morning.' The owner showed us our room and stated the prices that could be paid in the morning. We were very very unhappy with the room; dirty bed linen no kettle coffee or tea. Myself fell asleep and left hubby to watch TV. 6am next morning my son at door letting us know owner still asleep the three of us sneaked through hallway leaving the bedroom key on a ledge without paying the bill; we immediately jumped a black hackney and continued our journey to Wembley. We booked into the Wembley hotel and because of limited funds due to son's confession we were given a room with 3 single beds. The proprietor made us very welcome; laid on a big English breakfast and this made for an enjoyable start to our holiday.
