Grandma and Grandpa
Lesley Kay
Grandpa, resplendent in his gold and cream Easter robes, read from the big book on the lectern. His straight white hair parted definitely from right to left, and his blue eyes gazed beyond the congregation, heavenwards.
"And the Lord said..."
He began again.
"And the Lord said..."
Down in the pews, Grandma nudged us. "He's lost his place again" she whispered, and snapped open her bag, releasing the warm brown fug of fags and polo mints. My sister and I glanced inside.
Great. Today she had Fruit Pastels.
