The day my brother was born

John Brown

The day that I think was the most memorable in my life was the day that my younger brother Scott was born. It was a normal day, just like any other really. I had to get up, go to school, go to my childminders and then wait for my Dad to come pick me up so we could go home. While I was at school I was excited because I knew there was a possibility of my brother being born and I was running around telling everyone that my Mum was having a baby.

After school I went to my childminders still as excited as ever, everyone was there (at that time my childminder only ever managed to look after boys) and we all had a big discussion about what gender we thought the baby would be. Of course everyone wanted it to be a boy so we could talk about football and things like that. We also wanted it to be a boy to annoy my childminder who was desperate to look after a little baby girl! At around half past four my Dad came to pick me up. As he entered he had a great big cheesy smile on his face and I immediately knew the baby had been born. I ran up to him and said "did mummy have the baby?"

My dad said "yes".

"What is it?" I asked excitedly.

"A boy" he replied.

'YES!" I shouted and then ran around in circles celebrating with everyone else who had wanted it to be a boy.

"What is his name?" I asked.

"Scott" he said and I continued to celebrate with my friends happy that I had a new baby brother.

Instead of going home that night we went to the hospital to visit my mum and Scott. After I had said hi and asked how mum was feeling I ran to the nursery to try and find my baby brother. I started to worry because all of the babies looked the same, eventually I found the baby with the little tag that said Scott Brown on his wrist. The nurse asked if I would like to hold him and I said yes almost before she had finished her sentence.

"Hi little brother" I said to him "1'm John your big brother, and I'm going to be your best friend'

I have had a lot of memorable days, most were I have done some really stupid things but that was the one day I will remember for the rest of my life.
