The Day I Cut My Hand Open

Craig Wright

I remember when I was 6 years old living in Dunbar. I was in primary 2. My Grandma looked after me and my brother while our mum was out at work. My brother Cameron my two cousins Orson and Tom and me had just had lunch so we decided to go because it was a sunny day. After discussing what to play we played hidey tig Orson was 'it' first. As Orson counted Cameron Tom and I started to run. Tom ran out of the garden and into the street .Cameron and me started to the wall in our grandma's garden which is very long and has sharp stones along the top.

Cameron jumped over with ease but when I tried to jump over I placed my right hand on a sharp stone and twisted it whilst I jumped over. Once I had jumped I realized I had blood pouring out of my hand. I started to scream and Cameron asked what it was. I showed him my hand and he shouted to Orson stop the game Craig's cut his hand open. Cameron rushed me into grandma's house and shouted grandma to come here. She rushed through from the living room into the hall and saw my hand and shrieked. She ran into the kitchen and got a towel and wrapped it round my hand tightly and told me to keep pressure on it.

She took me into the living room and sat me down. My grandma phoned my mum and told her what happened to me. Grandma said mum would be coming home early to see me. It took my mum 20 minutes to get to my grandma's house. My mum rushed into the living room and she saw my hand and shrieked. She phoned the surgery and told them what happened. When my mum came off the phone she said we would have to go to the surgery to see a nurse about my hand. My mum the drove me to the surgery. We waited 10 minutes before we got seen to by a nurse. The nurse dressed my wound with closer stripes. She then put a large pad dressing on top of it. The nurse told me to keep it dry and after a week I could take it off. I was very glad when I could take it off because it was very smelly. It had healed up quite well after a week and after a month there was only a little scar left and it hasn't caused me any problems since.
