Phill O'Donnel Tribute Match

Robert McGowan

My best day is when me and my mum went to the Phill O'Donnel tribute match. A tribute match is when someone has died and you go and have a game of football to praise them. It isn't now a days footballers who play, it is people who don't play anymore. The match teams are Celtic Vs Motherwell.

It started on the 25th of May. I got up about 7.3Oam. I went down stairs for breakfast. I had some toast. I looked really tired because the day before I was in Glasgow for Queen of the South against Rangers. I supported Queens. I would never support Rangers. Queens got beaten though - that was bad. So me and mum got dressed. We both had Celtic tops on. I had Shunsuke Nakamura on the back of my top. We got in the car and went to Lockerbie to get our lunch for later. Soon we were back in the car and we set off to Celtic park in Glasgow. When we got half way there we stopped off at a petrol station for petrol and the toilet. My mum couldn't believe that she lost £10. She went off her nut.

When we got there we stopped about half a mile from the stadium. Kick off was at 3:00pm but we got there at 1.30 so we stayed there and I got a football scarf and waited for the players to come. When the Motherwell bus came I got James Mcfadden's autograph. One of the Celtic players came in his car so I got his autograph too. He was called Morten Weighorst. When the Celtic bus came they just went to the changing room so we went for our seats. It was boiling so I went to get a drink. It was saying who was playing and when it said Henrik Larsson everybody went mental. Soon the game started and about 10 mins into it Celtic scored. Brattbak made it Celtic 1-0 up. Then suddenly it was 2- 0. Brattback again. He was brilliant. At half time and we got something to eat.

It was the second half. Straight away Celtic scored - Henrik Larsson. I can't remember who scored again but the final score was 5-1 to Celtic.

When we got home I went straight to bed as I was really tired.

That was my best day.
