Camping

Izak Maus

My dad stopped the car, now the adventure would begin. We got ready to set-off, throwing bags over our shoulders. The walk was not very hard, but it took a long time. There were many rocks we stopped and climbed to get across the rivers. The campsite was only about two miles away from where we parked but the walk took us at least three hours. When we finally got there we set our three tents. By that time, once we had put the tent up it was time for food, so we had a lunch of ravioli. After we decided to go for a walk there were a lot of hills around us so we set off to walk up one of them, the tallest one; it was a mix of forest marshes and long grass - it took us about three hours to get to the peak of the hill and took us another two hours to get back down. When we were about half way down we realized what a nice place the campsite was; we were right next to a river perfect for swimming in, but first we decided to have some tea. Until we realized we had left all the food in the car, so my dad and Neil (who was the same age and went to the same university as my dad), decided to go down and get it - leaving me, my brother and Tom (who was Neil's son). It was a very hot day and had about four hours to kill before dinner - and we had camped in the perfect spot in front of a massive hill, which we walked earlier. It was a mix of open grass and forest and on the other side there was a river at the bottom. The river was very still but at the top it was very rapid and shot you very comfortable into the still part. Finally my dad and Neil came back; we had a welcomed meal of eggs and noodles. By the time we had eaten it, it was about 8 o'clock but it was in the summer and the sky was still quite bright. We went to a nearby bridge, down the river from where we had camped. We had a rope and decided to play some rope game. We did a bit of climbing up a bridge; at the time it seemed massive and I always remember it that way, but going back a couple of years I realise it really was not that big. When we got back it was about 10 o'clock; it was still quite light, but too many midges, so I decided to go into my tent - before I knew it I was fast asleep. The next thing I was woken up to sausages, beans and eggs. After we decided to all go swimming again and stayed there till about 2 o'clock. All good things must come to an end and soon after I was fast asleep in the car on my way back home.
