A Day I Will Always Remember

Dale Stirling

A day I will always remember is the day me, Stuart and Grant went up to my caravan at Lochgoilhead in Argyle. My caravan is surrounded by mountains and numerous rivers, which me and my sister usually play in wearing our wetsuits. It overlooks a sea loch and has lots of fun and adventurous things to do. As soon as we arrived at my caravan all we wanted to do is go down to the main river and jump in' or something like that.

Getting the wetsuits on was not the easiest thing for Stuart to try. Me and Sheldy(Grant) got ours on straight away, but this wasn't the case for Stuart - he was rolling around the floor squirming trying to get his legs through it. My whole family including me and Sheldy were in stitches watching Stuart struggling with his wetsuit which was way too small for him!

After Stuart finally got his wetsuit on we went down one of the rivers at the site and went snorkelling. At first it was freezing in the water even though it was such a lovely, hot day. Then the wetsuits kicked in and we were fine. We saw lots of green sea weed and numerous gigantic crabs which we were amazed to see. We also saw lots of tiny fish and the occasional shrimp. We swam about a mile over a big mussel bed looking at crabs and massive mussels and crabs fighting each other - it was an amazing experience. The best thing we saw was a big shoal of trout in a really shallow bit of water on the sand bank. We all tried to jump and catch one but it didn't really work for us.

We continued to swim round the bottom of the loch into deeper water which we couldn't see anything and climbed out at the jetty which is a floating platform with boats moored to it. Lucky for us there was no boats around so we were jumping off into the deep water and climbing out and jumping back in, repeating this process about 100 times. My mum and dad caught up with us and bought us an ice cream. Even luckier for us a boat did show up with my friend Katie and her dad on it.

They took us out on their boat which was brilliant fun for we all sat in this big rubber ring and got pulled along by their speed boat! We nearly fell out when Davie (Katie's dad) suddenly turned the boat around. It was so much fun we couldn't describe it. When we got off the boat we went back to my caravan and had lunch because as usual we were starving hungry!

Straight after that my dad took us up the gorge which is a big river coming down the side of a mountain which we soon found ourselves walking up. We walked up it until we found a huge pool with a rope swing leading into it. We were climbing up on these big rocks and swung out into the middle of this big pool and let go into a huge plunge pool basically. We later walked further up the river into an even bigger pool which was surrounded by sheer rocks the size of houses so what we did was climb up the huge cliff like rocks, with a rope to help get up and jumped off the rocks, the size of a house into this unbelievably deep pool. We all agreed it was the best thing we did that day.

At night we went fishing. This was new to Sheldy and Stuart but they enjoyed it all the same. We caught about ten Mackerel every five minuets and kept a few which we gutted and put on the BBQ later that night. This is definitely a day I will always remember and I think Stuart and Sheldy will too.
