Prisoners sold their skin for survival in mid-century America.
Dr Skin: 1. The Terrordome
When journalist Alzo Slade arrives at the abandoned Holmesburg Prison in Philadelphia in the USA, he's drawn into one of the darkest chapters in American medical history.
Decades before, men locked up there sold their skin for survival. What began with a patch of gauze would become part of a vast human experimentation programme. But does anybody know the full extent of the operation?
Dr Skin is a Samizdat Audio production for the BBC World Service.
