How wetlands are enhancing life in Chile

In parts of Chile, restored wetlands are becoming vital infrastructure, protecting homes from floods while improving daily life and supporting local economies.

In Chile, wetlands aren’t just wildlife havens — they’re becoming vital infrastructure. We travel to the city of Concepción, where restored wetlands act as natural flood defences, and to Valdivia, Latin America’s first official “Wetlands City”, to discover how communities, scientists and local authorities are transforming these landscapes to protect homes, improve daily life and boost the local economy.
