French-Israeli billionaire faces trial over Guinea mining contracts
Reports and analysis of the day's political, economic and sports news from across Africa.
We bring you the latest from Geneva, Switzerland, where the corruption trial of French-Israeli billionaire Beny Steinmetz has begun. Swiss prosecutors say Steinmetz illicitly paid about $10m, in part through Swiss bank accounts, to gain the rights to Guinea's iron ore deposits in the Simandou mountains. He has always denied that his company BSGR paid bribes to obtain mining exploration permits.
Plus, Seychelles president Wavel Ramkalawan tells Focus on Africa why he wanted to receive the Covid-19 vaccine live on television.
And we visit Kenya’s Lamu Island, where an initiative called Girls Swimming for Change has won a 2020 Beyond Sport Global Award.
