Should yoga become an Olympic sport?
For many, yoga is a practice rooted in mindfulness, for self-reflection and connecting with your body. But a growing movement wants to see Yogasana – a competitive form of yoga where participants hold poses that are judged and scored – recognised in the Olympics.
Earlier this year, the Indian government said that it would push for its inclusion in the Olympics, ahead of the country’s bid to host the 2036 Games.
To dig deeper into this conversation, Nuala McGovern was joined on Woman’s Hour by yoga teacher Divya Kohli and yogasana competitor Laura McDonald.
They were also joined by Suzanne Newcombe, Senior Lecturer in Religious Studies at the Open University. To listen in full, head to BBC Sounds – it’s the Woman’s Hour episode from 28 October.
