Restaurateur Sam Harrison: ‘My grandmother burned down the house and moved to Claridge’s’
This Listed Londoner told Gary Crowley he’d have loved to have seen London in the 50s.
Sam Harrison is a born and bred west Londoner and the current owner of Sam’s Riverside in Hammersmith and Sam’s Waterside in Brentford.
After growing up in Fulham, and studying in Oxford, Sam got his first big job at Rick Stein’s restaurant in Padstow, becoming General Manager while still in his twenties.
Stints in Australia and Canada followed, and in 2005 he opened Sam’s Brasserie in Chiswick, which was followed by Harrison’s in Balham.
Over the years Sam has been offered restaurant sites in Soho, Shoreditch and the City, but west London has remained the constant.
