The 18th U.S. President pays Leicester a visit
Ulysses S. Grant stops off in Leicester on the 31st of May 1877.
On the 31st May 1877 at just after 5pm a steam train pulled in at Leicester’s old railway station on Campbell Street. It was on its way to Manchester, but this was no ordinary trip. Alighting onto the platform was none other than the 18th President of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant.
