Dewsbury Runs Out of Muslim Burial Plots
While 83% of people in our region are cremated, for religious reasons Muslims are buried and cremation is prohibited. It’s an issue councils are having to address – nowhere more so than in Kirklees as Dewsbury Cemetery has run out of space for Muslims to be buried there. Kirklees Council says both Batley and Heckmondwike cemeteries have several years of space remaining and both are around three miles away from Dewsbury Cemetery. Mark Ansell reports.
